Breaking News: Sanjay Roy Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case

The court has sentenced Sanjay Rai, the accused in the case of brutally murdering a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, to life imprisonment. Announcing the sentence in the rape and murder case on Monday, 20 January, the Sealdah court sentenced Sanjay to life imprisonment. Earlier, the accused, while presenting his side in the court, said that an attempt had been made to frame him.

Sanjay Rai, the main accused in the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor, was convicted by the Sealdah court under sections 64, 66 and 103 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). The court convicted Sanjay 162 days after the incident, that is, two days ago (18 January). The sections under which Sanjay Roy was convicted had a provision for life imprisonment or the death penalty. The court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment.

Sanjay Roy was sentenced to life imprisonment

The Sealdah court of West Bengal has sentenced Sanjay Roy, the accused in the RG Kar rape-murder case, to life imprisonment. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Sanjay Roy. Sealdah court has announced the punishment 164 days after this heinous crime. Since the incident, there has been a demand to give the harshest punishment to the culprit.

On Monday, Sanjay Roy was brought out of jail at around 10:15 am for a court appearance and many police vehicles were present while bringing him to the court. At the same time, about 500 policemen were deployed in Sealdah court and officers were instructed to be ready to deal with any untoward incident. In the court, Sanjay said that I am innocent, I am being framed.

The body of the trainee doctor was found lying in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College on the morning of 9 August. The hospital administration informed the police about this. According to the information, the victim had died late at night. Sanjay Roy was arrested on 10 August 2024, a day after the body of the lady doctor was found. On 7 October, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Sanjay Roy, accused in the rape and murder case. On 4 November, the CBI framed charges against accused Sanjay Roy in Sealdah Court. After this, the trial of the case started in the court on 11 November. Now the court has sentenced the accused Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment.
