A doctor has been arrested for allegedly raping two female patients at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha. Police gave this information on Tuesday. Police said that the alleged incident took place on Sunday when the women had come to the ‘Cardiology’ department of a major government hospital for an ‘Echocardiogram’ test. Cuttack Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash R told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that based on the complaint of two female patients, the resident doctor has been booked on rape charges.
Cuttack Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Anil Mishra said, “A written complaint was lodged on behalf of both the patients at Mangalbagh police station on Monday following which a case was registered against the doctor.” The Health and Family Welfare Department has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to probe the allegations against the resident doctor.
The notification issued by the Ministry of Health said that the panel will conduct a detailed investigation and recommend appropriate action to the government. Another police officer said that the accused doctor had allegedly asked the two women to come for tests on Sunday instead of Friday. Some relatives of the patient allegedly beat up the accused, however, Mishra said the police had not received any formal complaint in this regard.
