Delivery Man Allegedly Rapes 19-Year-Old Woman in Greater Noida High-Rise Society

Again another horrific rape incident was reported, this time from Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida, where a 19-year-old woman inside a high-rise society was allegedly raped by a 23-year-old employee of an online grocery company. A study on Child Abuse in India in 2007’ revealed that more than 53% of children in India have probably been sexually abused and many have never shared the fact of this abuse with anyone. It is estimated that 150 million girls and 73 million boys under 18 have been subjected to forced sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual violence.

Again, another rape incident happened in Noida.

The accused person, named Sumit Singh,  is a resident of Greater Noida Village. He went to deliver an order to the apartment of this 19-year-old woman. The young woman ordered milk and eggs using her regular delivery app. Unfortunately, at that time, the woman was alone at home. On reaching the destination, the delivery man, Sumit, realized that the woman was alone at home. He then barged into the apartment and raped her. She somehow managed to raise an alarm and the neighbors were alerted. Fearful of getting caught, the accused fled from the spot and residents informed police.

The accused was caught though he was on the run!

This happened on Friday and the victim woman complained to the police on the same day. The Noida police formed several teams to track the accused. Though the accused, Sumit Singh was on a run but later he was arrested after a gunfight on Sunday. “Based on a complaint filed by the victim, an FIR under section 376 (punishment for rape), 452 (house trespass), 323 (criminal assault), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and teams were formed to arrest him,” said Hirdesh Katheriya, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Central Noida.

Is India not safe for the women?

A survey conducted by the Thomson Reuters Foundation has ranked India as the world’s most dangerous country for women, ahead of Afghanistan, Syria, and Saudi Arabia. The poll surveyed 548 experts on six different indices – healthcare, discrimination, cultural traditions, sexual and non-sexual violence, and human trafficking. then they were asked to name the worst country in each of the above categories. India topped three – cultural traditions, sexual violence, and human trafficking.
