Doctors’ Strike Stops Health Services, Ministry Forms Security Committee as Patients Worry

There is tremendous anger in the country after the incident of rape and murder of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata. Doctors are also angry with this murder. Doctors across the country are on strike today demanding the safety of doctors. The Indian Medical Association has called for a 24-hour strike today and this strike started at 6 am and will continue till 6 am on Sunday. Patients are facing a lot of trouble due to this strike. Meanwhile, the central government has requested the agitating doctors to return to work in public interest. However, the agitating doctors have rejected the government’s proposal.

Saturday was a day of double trouble for patients in the country’s hospitals. When many patients reached the OPD of the hospitals, they came to know that there was a doctors’ strike and the OPD would remain closed. Many patients have said that they had to face trouble due to the doctors’ strike.

Doctors protested in different cities in the Kolkata rape and murder case. In many places, doctors took out rallies and protested by tying black ribbons. The protesting doctors demanded that the accused be hanged for the Kolkata incident. Due to the strike, health services were badly affected in many states. Along with the Kolkata case, doctors also raised the issue of safety of doctors.

Doctors demanded the Central Protection Act

OPD services remained suspended in major hospitals in Delhi due to the strike. Along with AIIMS, doctors of Guru Teg Bahadur, Ram Manohar Lohia, and DDU hospitals have protested.

Doctors of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital told NDTV that we have been demanding the Central Protection Act for years. They said that even now patients and their relatives attack doctors in the hospital. Doctors said that even today on the day of the strike, a ward patient misbehaved with the doctor. They said that even when the whole country is looking at the doctors, the doctor is still not safe. Unless the doctor feels safe himself, how will he save the lives of others? There are women doctors in many hospitals in the country who do not feel safe, so CPA should be implemented soon.

Doctors asked the celebrity that when atrocities happen in any corner of the country, the celebrities of our country post – “All Eyes On”, but why is this not being done for the doctor now?
