Due to his absence during the hearing, the court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Ram Gopal Varma in the check bounce case. This verdict comes just before the announcement of his new project Syndicate.
Mumbai court has sentenced Ram Gopal Varma to three months in jail in connection with a seven-year-old check bounce case. The trial in this matter had been ongoing for the past seven years, and now the court has found him guilty.
According to a report from TOI, the court has found Ram Gopal Varma guilty under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. The court has also directed him to pay a compensation of Rs. 3.72 lakh to the complainant.
While sentencing Ram Gopal Varma, Magistrate Y.P. Pujari said, “There is no question of a set-off under Section 428 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as the accused has not spent any time in custody during the trial.”
In fact, a case was filed against Ram Gopal Varma’s company in 2018. The filmmaker has been facing financial difficulties for some years, as his films have not been performing well. In this case, Ram Gopal Varma was granted bail in June 2022 after providing a personal surety bond and paying a cash bond of Rs. 5,000.
