A woman has brought forth a disturbing case of alleged sexual harassment by a Zomato delivery agent. In a post on x, the woman said the incident happened when she ordered coffee late Tuesday night amid heavy rains in Ahmedabad. Though the delivery was delayed, she understood the situation and did not mind waiting. “The delivery partner was smiling and constantly apologizing for the delay, which made me feel uncomfortable, but I ignored it, thinking I was not the only one getting disturbed given the current situation in the country,” she wrote.
The delivery agent did the wrong thing
She further said the delivery agent, Shwetang Joshi, repeatedly pointed to his leg, referring to the injury. “He then shone his torch on the driver’s legs and alleged that his private parts were visible. He was laughing and jokingly telling me ‘ma’am, please help’,” the woman alleged. She said she immediately reported the incident to Zomato but the company’s response only added to her distress.
It made the woman feel uncomfortable
She wrote, “On the call, the woman said that they would listen to the situation from both sides, i.e. me and the delivery partner. Who in their right mind would bother to contact Zomato customer service at 1 am, without asking for a refund or anything? I wanted immediate action. But as a woman, being told ‘wait till further notice’ is disgusting and invalidating. Even after this, there was no response from Zomato, which makes me think how unsafe it is to order food even in an emergency. You should be ashamed of your ‘safe delivery’ policy and following it.”
Zomato contacted her
The woman was very upset and angry by this incident as she claimed that she knows many other women who have this happen to them multiple times a week and they keep quiet. In a later update, she said that Zomato contacted her and took the necessary steps, but she still felt unsafe. She said the delivery person had been fired and his license had been revoked.
“I wouldn’t say I feel safe now, I still feel unsafe, but they did what they could,” she said. She admitted she still fears the delivery person may come to her address again, but legal help has given her some relief.
