Understanding IPC Section 294 and the Urfi Javed Controversy Laws Against Public Nudity in India

What is Section 294?

Under this section, whether it is Urfi Javed or anyone else, you cannot be naked in a public place. If you do this, you may have to go to jail. If found guilty in such a case, the maximum punishment that the accused can be given is three months.

On whom can Section 294 be registered? (IPC 294)

– Someone does something obscene in a public place

– Any person singing or speaking obscene songs in or near a public place

Arrest can happen without a warrant

According to legal experts, the case registered under Section 294 of IPC is bailable. If a case is registered against someone under this section, the police can arrest such person without any warrant or prior permission of the court. In this case, the magistrate can hear and impose a punishment fine, or both on the accused.

Actress Poonam Gande and her husband Sam Bombay, who had gone to visit Goa, were arrested for shooting obscene videos. Later he got bail from Goa court. A case has also been registered against actor Milind Soman for conducting a nude photoshoot.
