The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Saturday alleged that its centre in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka was set on fire during the day. ISKCON Kolkata vice-president Radharaman Das has given this information on Xpost. He said, “ISKCON Namhatta ISKCON centre in Bangladesh has been destroyed. The idols of Sri Sri Lakshmi Narayan and all the items inside the temple were completely burnt to ashes. This centre is present in Dhaka.”
Das said, “Today, between 2 and 3 a.m., the miscreants set fire to Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple and Sri Sri Mahabhagya Lakshmi Narayan Temple. This is under the jurisdiction of Turag Police. This temple is under the Hare Krishna Namhatta Sangh and is present in Dhaur village. First, the rear part of the temple was set on fire.
Petrol and octane were used. According to Das, targeted attacks on community members continue unabated. He said that even after ISKCON informed the interim government in Bangladesh, the police and administration were not trying to address their complaints.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s regime in August and the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus coming to power, attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, have increased in Bangladesh. In the last four months, attacks on ISKCON properties have increased at various places in Bangladesh. India had said last week that the interim government in Bangladesh should fulfil its responsibility of protecting all minorities. Let us tell you that a few days ago Chinmay Krishna Das was arrested here. Since the arrest, tension has been seen continuously here.
