The state government could not hold talks with junior doctors who were on strike in the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor last month at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, even today. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee waited for two hours to talk to the striking doctors but the doctors did not come for talks. On this deadlock, Mamata Banerjee has said that she is ready to resign for the sake of the people.
Two days ago, the striking doctors refused to talk to the Chief Secretary and demanded to talk to the Chief Minister. That day too, the Chief Minister kept waiting with the Chief Secretary in the state secretariat for about two and a half hours but the doctors did not even reply to the Chief Secretary’s email.
The Chief Minister said that we waited for two hours today also to meet the junior doctors, but they did not come to the meeting place. Along with this, he said that he tried three times to talk to the junior doctors to end the deadlock in the RG Kar case. The CM said, “We had a video recording of the meeting with the junior doctors, we could have shared it with them with the permission of the Supreme Court but since the RG tax case is sub judice, the meeting with them cannot be telecast live as demanded by the junior doctors.”
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made it clear that she will not take any action against the agitating junior doctors. The Chief Minister said, “I will forgive them because we are big.” The Chief Minister also said that 27 people have died and seven lakh patients have been troubled across the state due to the ‘work strike’ by junior doctors.
