Sexual abuse of school girl in moving bus, police in action after notice of Women’s Commission

A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a senior student inside a school bus in northwest Delhi’s Rohini area. Police gave this information on Saturday. A senior police officer said that the accused had been arrested. Earlier in the day, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) issued a notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rohini, seeking information regarding the action taken in the case of sexual assault of a minor girl in a private school bus.

A senior police officer said that the police received information about an incident of molestation of a minor girl on Wednesday. “The victim’s father has alleged in his written complaint that his daughter was molested by a boy in the school bus,” the officer said. According to the officer, ‘IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 228A (disclosing the identity of the victim of certain crimes) and Protection of Children from Sexual Harassment (POCSO) Act. A case has been registered in Begumpur police under section 10/21 of IPC.

The officer said that the accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway. In the letter issued to the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Rohini, it is written, “The Commission has been informed that the girl studies in a private school in Begumpur area of Delhi. The victim’s mother said that on August 23, when the school bus dropped her daughter at the society gate, she saw that the girl’s bag was wet due to urine. They allege that when asked, the girl said that a student studying in the senior class sexually assaulted her on the school bus.”

The DCW has sought a copy of the FIR registered in the notice issued on September 1 and has asked to explain the reason for there delay in registering the FIR. DCW has also asked in the notice whether the accused was arrested or caught in the case. And has any FIR been registered against the school chairman, school manager, principal, vice principal, and other school officials for allegedly not providing information and revealing the identity of the victim?

Commission chairperson Swati Maliwal posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and said, “A six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a senior boy in a private school bus in Delhi. The girl’s mother told us that the school is pressurizing her to withdraw the complaint. Notice is being given to the Delhi Police in the matter. Strict action should be taken against the school too!”
