Telegram may be banned in India for performing illegal activities in the platform!

fter WhatsApp, if there is any other messaging app popular in India then it is Telegram. But for the last few days, there is talk about this messaging app that it may soon be banned in India. The reason behind the ban is said to be that many illegal activities are going on on Telegram. This includes everything from paper leaks to child pornography and stock price manipulation in the stock market.

Telegram CEO got arrested for criminal activities in the platform!

Concerns increased in India when Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was detained in France on August 24. Currently investigation is going on. Durov is being investigated for failing to address criminal activity on the platform, including spreading child sexual abuse material. Same is the case in India also. Telegram has also been used to facilitate many scams and frauds in India.

The Paris prosecutor announced on August 26 that the investigation into Durov included allegations of illegal transactions, child pornography, fraud, and failure to provide information to authorities. In response, Telegram reiterated its stance, “It is absurd to say that a platform or its owner should be held responsible for the misuse of that platform.” Telegram was launched in 2013 by Pavel and Nikolai Durov. Now this platform has 950 million users, which has increased from 550 million to 950 million in 2022.

Will Telegram be banned?

As of August 27, 2024, the Government of India has not publicly announced any major action against Telegram. However, due to illegal activities taking place through this platform, the demand for strict rules and monitoring is increasing. The government is closely monitoring the activities of Telegram and is expressing concern about its involvement in illegal activities. At the same time, like other social media platforms, suggestions are being made to implement strict rules on the content shared on Telegram.
