Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined Congress on Friday, September 6, 30 days before the Haryana Assembly elections. It is considered certain that Vinesh will contest elections from Julana seat. At the same time, there is speculation about Bajrang also contesting the elections.
Vinesh has said, “In bad times, you know who is with you. First of all, I want to thank the countrymen and the media. I am very thankful to the Congress Party that in bad times we know who is with us. When we were being dragged on the streets during the movement, every party in the country except BJP was with us. I am feeling proud that I am in such a party, which stands against the injustice and ill-treatment of women.”
Bajrang Punia shared his thoughts to the press saying,“Congress party stood with us. Today it is being said that our aim was only to do politics. We had sent them (BJP) a letter. The Congress Party stood with us during the atrocities that happened to our daughters. We will work equally hard here as we worked hard in wrestling, farmers movement and our movement. Whatever happened to Vinesh in the Olympics, the whole country was sad, although some people were celebrating. This was wrong. As Vinesh said, we are all with the daughters of the country.”
