A huge and terrible fire broke out at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Thursday morning. A call was received at 5.59 am and seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot as soon as possible. Although the fire department was able to brought the fire under control by 6.20 am.
The fire destroyed every furniture, a fridge and every office records on the second floor of the Director building at AIIMS. Although the relief is, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. But further details are still awaited. “No one was injured in the incident, though some files, office records, a refrigerator and office furniture were gutted in the fire,” a DFS official said.
AIIMS has always been ranked at the top among all other medical colleges of the India. They provide highly advanced medical science here and that is the reason why AIIMS as a hospital has cured so many patients from different corners of the world.
Although AIIMS came to be under the Nehru government, but, the real driving force behind it was minister of health, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur. On February 18, 1956, she had introduced a new bill to lok sabha. She said, “It has been one of my cherished dreams that for post graduate study and for the maintenance of high standards of medical education in our country, we should have an institute of this nature which would enable our young men and women to have their post graduate education in their own country.”
In August 2023, also a fire broke out in AIIMS Delhi, at the endoscopy room on the second floor of the old OPD Block. Which causes of halting emergency services and diagnostic facilities till late evening that day. In the last few years, many fire incidents have happened at this institute with the biggest fire accident reported in 2019.
