Abhijit Gangopadhyay has create history by becoming the first High Court judge in recent memory who resigned to join a political party! He sent his resignation letter to the President of this nation, Droupadi Murmu, with copies to the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, and the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, TS Sivagnanam, on yesterday , Tuesday morning. Today, on March 7th, he is going to join the political party, BJP!
Kolkata High Court judge Gangopadhyay has been involved in many controversies during his tenure at the Calcutta High Court since May 2018. He had defied orders of larger Benches, had run-ins with lawyers and the ruling Trinamool Congress party in West Bengal. He also had a dispute with a fellow judge at the High Court and gave an interview to a TV channel on a case that he was hearing. He got very famous on education-related issues in the Mamata Banerjee-ruled state stirred political debates. Now this judge has created another history. “I am joining the BJP as it is a national party, which is fighting against the corruption of the TMC in Bengal,” said the ex judge of Kolkata High Court.
“For the last two or more years I have been dealing with some matters, especially education matters, regarding which a huge corruption has been discovered and unearthed. A large number of important persons in the education sector of this government are now languishing in jail, under trial,” he said today. The ex justice Mr Abhijeet Gangopadhyay also said, “My resignation is the result of insulting remarks by Trinamool persons against me… when I was trying to do justice as I was exploring and discovering huge corruption in education appointments – school teachers and employees in different schools – in the state.”
