Actress and politician Mimi Chakraborty has offered her resignation as Lok Sabha MP from TMC( Trinamool Congress). She came to the assembly today to confirm her decision to quit politics. She won the seat over one of CPIM’s strongest candidates and a member of Rajya Sabha, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya. Upon winning the position, Mimi was one of the youngest members of the parliament.
“Politics is not for me”- Mimi became vocal about the insults she had faced within the party
However, she has decided to draw an end to her 5-year long journey in politics saying,” The major reason behind me quitting is I haven’t yet learned how to do politics.” She mentioned, “Earlier in 2022, I shared my thoughts about leaving politics to my supremo but then she talked me out of it.”
Today, after attending the assembly, she made a clear press statement about the reasons behind her decision. The actress kept saying she was not fit for politics, even though she really wanted to and did work for the people as much as she could. Quoting her own words,” I have never spoken out loud about these issues. I used to know that you have to be discreet with your kindness but after coming to work for the people under the banner of the big political party, I had to pose for all the givings, even if it’s just a sack of rice.”
Apart from her own words, there were questions about her activeness from within the party. Although she shared a different story with the press.“As a media person, you have access to everything. Please visit the MP land portal utilization portal and check what amount of work I have done. I have the data with me as well but I am not allowed to share that. But you guys can find that out”. The actress shared and poured her heart out, “There are times when I faced harassment from my party while trying to serve people”. Without disclosing the names, the actress alleged injustice and insult within the party. This turned out to be one of the major reasons for her to leave this position. The actress mentioned, “I have served the people where needed. I am not a politician, nor will I ever be a politician. Thank you to all the channels for putting out the right news. There were times when I got stopped by others from the party but without the permission of my supremo I cannot disclose that. Although I am obliged to share them with my supremo, which I have done, she has assured me she will take necessary steps.”
Mimi has signed the formal resignation two days prior which hasn’t been accepted by the Lok Sabha chairperson yet.
The timing of her leaving the party is a very difficult time for the party as well as the ongoing turmoil about the Sandeshkhali situation.
