Again another tragic and fatal train accident took place. A special passenger train, which was stationary between Alamanda and Kantakapalle near Kothsavatsala because it received no signals, was rammed by another Vizag-Raigad passenger train which caused derailing three coaches. The train was going from Visakhapatnam to Palasa. The train carriages involved in the accident have been removed from the site now and track restoration work is ongoing.
The tragic Andhra Pradesh train crash occurred just months after the Odisha train accident in which more than 280 people were killed. As per the latest reports, fourteen passengers have died and over than 50 people are seriously injured after these two trains collided on the Howrah-Chennai line in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district on Sunday, October 29. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has said that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy will first visit the hospital where the injured are receiving treatment and then visit the site of the accident.
Biswajit Sahu, Chief Public Relations Officer of the East Coast Railway (ECR) said that a total of 33 trains have been cancelled, 22 trains diverted and 11 trains partially cancelled since the Sunday collision in Andhra Pradesh. “The driver of the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train was responsible for the accident, as he overshot a signal and hit the rear end of the Palasa train. The driver of the Rayagada train was also killed in the accident” … “So far, 11 people have died and 50 others are injured. We are presently focusing on the track restoration work. The rescue operation is over now…We have arranged buses and trains for the stranded passengers. A total of 18 trains have been cancelled and 22 trains have been diverted. We are trying to clear the track by 4 pm today.” ” said Biswajit Sahu. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has spoken with Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy about this incident.
