Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates visited Maa Mangla Basti which is located in Bhubaneswar’s Odisha. It is notable that Odisha government’s Department of Agriculture and Farmer Empowerment and the Fisheries and Animal Resource Department have been collaborating with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for innovation in data-driven decision-making since the year 2019.

Microsoft co-founder and the world famous philanthropist Bill Gates has reached Bhubaneswar, for a visit to Odisha on Tuesday. After arriving in Odisha, he has visited the Maa Mangala Basti slum which is located in the Niladri Bihar area of Bhubaneswar. In the Basti, he also interacted with the local people about the implementation of various schemes of the Odisha Government. It is notable that Bill Gates foundation has been helping in MUKTA and JAGA Mission. Bill Gates will also visit the Krushi Bhawan in Bhubaneswar and he will meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik too.
The Development Commissioner Anu Garg, the Additional Chief Secretary, the Housing and Urban Development G Mathivathanan and other many senior officials of the State Government were present during the visit to the slum area. The Odisha Government had signed an MoU with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to increased use of data management in agriculture sector back in 2017. That agreement has been aimimg to improve the lives of small farmers and promote inclusive growth in the sector.
Earlier, on last February 25, Bill Gates has mentioned in his blog that is named ‘Gate Notes’ about this visit. Bill Gates has mentioned that he will be visiting a low-income community in Odisha where a government programme is helping the women get the skills which will fulfil government construction contracts. He has written in the blog, “Since 2018, this programme has helped 22,000 groups of women deliver on more than 52,000 projects including building roads, drains, and toilets.”
