China’s new virus enters India! Eight month old child suffering from HMPV in Bengaluru

Human Metavirus (HMPV) has become an epidemic in China. Many hospitals in the country are getting filled with affected patients. Most of the victims are children. This time the first HMPV-infected patient has been found in India. HMPB-virus has been found in the body of an eight-month-old baby in Bengaluru. The child is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

Karnataka Health Department has confirmed the news of detection of the country’s first HMPV case. The matter has been informed to the Union Health Ministry. It has not yet been confirmed whether the virus found in the child’s body was the Chinese strain of HMPV. Last January 3, assurance was given by the Central Government that India is safe from the HMVP virus. However, after two days the first case is being registered which is concerning.

Human metapneumovirus or HMPV was first discovered in 2001. This virus has spread widely in China. Mainly children under 14 years of age and elderly people are affected by it. Many people are heading to the hospital due to the virus outbreak. Last year, 324 people were infected with HMPV in China.
