Earthquake Strikes Gujarat Again, Residents Rush Out of Homes

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of magnitude 3.6 hit the Kutch district of Gujarat on the evening of Saturday, December 4. According to the NCS, these tremors of the earthquake were recorded at 4:37 pm at a depth of 5 km. NCS tweeted about this.

The Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) reported that an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 hit the Kutch district of Gujarat on the morning of January 1, i.e. Wednesday. The district administration said that there were no reports of casualties or property damage due to the earthquake. News agency PTI, citing Gandhinagar-based ISR, had reported that the earthquake occurred at 10.24 am on Wednesday, with its epicenter located 23 km north-northeast (NNE) of Bhachau. Last month, four seismic activities of more than 3 magnitude were recorded in the region, including a 3.2 earthquake three days ago, whose epicenter was also close to Bhachau.

An earthquake also occurred last month.

ISR said that on December 23, an earthquake of 3.7 magnitude hit the district and on December 7, an earthquake of 3.2 magnitude hit Kutch. On November 18 last year, an earthquake of 4 magnitude hit Kutch. According to ISR data, before this, on November 15, an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude hit Patan in North Gujarat.

Earthquakes keep happening in Gujarat

Gujarat is a high earthquake-risk area. According to the data of the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), nine major earthquakes occurred here in the last 200 years, according to the PTI report. According to GSDMA, the earthquake that hit Kutch on January 26, 2001, was the third largest and second most destructive earthquake in India in the last two centuries. A large number of towns and villages in the district were almost destroyed in the earthquake, killing about 13,800 people and injuring 1.67 lakh others.
