The action has been taken to provide a level playing field. This decision was taken to provide a level playing field in the parliamentary elections that is beginning from April 19. This decision has been taken because of the 2016 Assembly Election in the state and in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Just a few days after releasing the election date, now the Election Commission (EC) has started taking other steps. The election commission has removed West Bengal’s Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar. The top wad considered very close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Secretary of the General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal have been removed too.The commission has also removed Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner, who is named Iqbal Singh Chahal and Additional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners. This step is very crucial , because it comes as part of the Commission’s resolve and commitment to maintain a level playing field and ensuring the integrity of the election process. This process has been emphasised by CEC Rajiv Kumar recently during the Press Conference , where the announcement of Schedule for General Elections 2024 was done. The election commission has also directed all the State Governments to transfer the officers who are connected with election-related work and who have completed three years or are in their home districts.
