A woman was killed and over 20 injured in the blast in Kerala during a prayer meeting on Sunday. According to reports, over 2,500 people attended the three-day convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses at Zamra International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Kalamassery, Kerala. At least three blasts were reported within minutes after the prayer meeting started.
The blast is suspected to be another terrorist act!
People, who were present at the convention center told the media that the first blast occurred in the middle of a prayer. A woman was killed in the blast during the prayer meeting on Sunday. According to the sources the initial assessment of the explosions, which took place during a Jehovah’s Witness convention, suggests it to be a terror attack! The Kerala government has announced a special 20-member team to inquire into this blast. A bomb squad, forensics team, and a team of NIA rushed to the spot, while a suspect was nabbed from Kannur railway station. Vijayan called for an all-party meeting today. Over the blast incident, he said, “What happened in Kalamassery is very unfortunate.
“We were seated towards the rear of the hall. When I opened my eyes, there was fire and smoke in the middle of the hall. Everyone was confused as to what happened. Soon, the smoke engulfed the hall, and it became difficult to breathe, especially for the elderly.”, a woman who was present there, told the reporters.
The number of injured people is increasing constantly!
Kerala Health Minister Veena George had said on Sunday that 52 people were admitted to different hospitals, of which 18 were in ICU and six, including the 12-year-old girl, were critically injured. Many people were injured in the blast, others sustained injuries while fleeing from the meeting hall. Seven people including a child are admitted to ICU. Nine people who are in critical condition have been shifted to Sunrise Hospital at Kakkanad. Burn surgeons from Kottayam Government Medical College will reach Kalamassery Medical College to provide expert medical care to the injured.
