Maldives PM has officially asked for help from China to get revenge on India.
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has now appealed to China. He requested China to “intensify” efforts and send more tourists to his country. This happened after a significant number of reservations for cancelled by Indian tourists in the middle of the ongoing diplomatic tiff between India and Maldives.
The Maldives President Muizzu’s desperate call for more Chinese tourists coincided with the signing of a USD 50 million project that will develop an integrated tourism zone in the Maldives. He also underlined that China was the top market for the Maldives before the COVID-19 pandemic happened in 2020. A recently posted statistic report shows Indian tourists made more than 209,000 trips to Maldives in 2023, making up 11% of its tourism market.
It is notable that, Three Maldives officials have posted on X, describing Modi as a “clown,” “terrorist” and a “puppet of Israel.” “The government believes that the freedom of expression should be exercised democratically and responsibly, and in ways that do not spread hatred, negativity, and hinder close relationships between the Maldives and its international partners,” said the statement of the Maldives government.
