Cyclone Michuang’s Impact on Chennai: Stay Alert for Safety!

Cyclone Michaung is currently just 100 km away from Chennai. It is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by noon on Monday. This cyclone will move parallelly to the coast of north Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh. After that, this will cross by Nellore-Machilipatnam tomorrow at 4. 

There’ll be Landfall likely between Andhra’s Nellore and Machilipatnam tomorrow!!

Cyclone Michaung is approaching the North Tamil Nadu coast slowly. Several areas of Chennai are already left inundated because of heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging. Heavy rainfall and strong winds will continue in Chennai and surrounding districts

Andhra officials are on high alert. District officials in Andhra Pradesh are on high alert. The Cyclone Michuang is anticipated to make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam prompting a series of preventive measures across the region.

According to Dr. Balachandran who is the Head of the regional Meteorological Centre of Chennai, the cyclonic storm lay around 100 km East-northeast of Chennai and it is expected to move Northwest direction.

Railways has already set up an emergency cell in Chennai and, a war room in Delhi!!

The Railway Ministry has set up an emergency control cell in Chennai and a war room at the Rail Bhawan in New Delhi  Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur have been witnessing hefty rainfall and gusty winds over the last 12 hours. The state government issued an alert to the eight districts of Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada.

“The Indian Railways has geared up its entire machinery in a big way to ensure and manage smooth and safe railway operations in the areas likely to be affected by the cyclonic storm ‘Michaung’.” a statement issued by the Railway Ministry said on Monday.

Media showed images of cars floating after water coursed through the streets of Chennai as rain poured down. Schools, colleges, offices, and banks were closed in at least four districts of Tamil Nadu because of weather conditions due to government notice.
