Nipah Virus Alert: Schools Closed in Kozhikode as 1080 People Exposed to Infected Individuals

Alarm bells have rung in Kerala regarding the Nipah virus. The infection is becoming very dangerous here. In view of the increasing cases, all educational institutions in Kozhikode have been closed till September 24. An order has been issued by the state government not to open schools, colleges, and coaching institutes. It said that online classes will be conducted throughout the next week.

Meanwhile, 1080 people have been identified in Kerala who came in contact with the infected people. Health Minister Veena George said that 130 people have been tracked on Friday, it has been found that 327 health workers are among those who came in direct contact with the infected.

The risk of infection in other districts also

Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that apart from Kozhikode, the risk of infection has increased in other districts also. Apart from Kozhikode, 29 people have been identified in other districts who have come in contact with the infected persons. Of these, 22 are from Malappuram, one from Wayanad, and three each from Kannur and Thrissur. This includes 175 high-risk general public and 122 health workers.

Nipah virus cases are increasing in Kerala. Six infected people have been identified here, out of which two have died. According to the state government, the number of active cases in Kerala has now reached 4. Meanwhile, infected gram panchayats in Kozhikode have been quarantined. The Indian Council of Medical Research has said that the death rate due to the Nipah virus is between 40 to 70 percent, which is much higher than the death rate due to coronavirus. Let us tell you, the death rate due to corona infection is 2 to 3 percent.
