Shikhar Dhawan has decided to retire from international and domestic cricket. He announced his retirement by posting an emotional video on social media early in the morning of 24th August. This left-handed batsman, known as ‘Gabbar’, was out of the team for a long time. After the arrival of young openers like Shubman Gill, his return to the team was looking difficult. There is currently no update on whether he will play IPL or not. Dhawan, who is almost 39 years old, played ODI cricket for India for the first time in 2010, after which he got a chance to debut in T-20 and then Test format.
Dhawan shared an emotional video on his social media handle to let his fans know about his decision. In this video released by him, Dhawan said that, “I am standing at such a point from where when looking back, only memories are visible and when looking forward, a whole world. I always had only one destination to play for India and that also happened and I am thankful to many people for this.”
Current captain Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan together opened for the Indian team for many years. Both were famous for giving a stormy start to the team. Shikhar Dhawan, while making his debut on the Australia tour, surprised the selectors by scoring the fastest Test century by a debutant player. Dhawan, who hails from Delhi, was an aggressive batsman, who was famous for testing the bowlers.Dhawan, who made a new style statement with his curved mustache, will always be remembered for his signature style of hitting his thighs after taking a catch.
