Spanish President Pedro Sanchez will not attend the G20 summit starting here on Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19. “This afternoon I have tested positive for COVID and will not be able to go to New Delhi for the G20 summit,” Sanchez wrote on X. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Sanchez a speedy recovery and good health.
Responding to Sanchez’s post, Modi said, “We will remember your insightful thoughts during the upcoming G20 summit. Also, a warm welcome to the visiting Spanish delegation in India. Spain will be represented by Nadia Calvino, First Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs, and Jose Manuel Alberes, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Sanchez is the third leader to withdraw from the summit. Let us tell you that US President Joe Biden’s wife Jill Biden is also not attending the G20 conference due to being Corona positive.”
Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin had said that they would not attend the summit. Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will also not attend the G20 summit. He has not attended the G20 summit since 2019.
