The Indian Olympic Association has confirmed Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Olympics. She will not be able to play the final of 50 kg category women’s wrestling to be held on Wednesday night. She will not even get any medal. The most difficult thing is that this decision cannot even be appealed. Vinesh was playing in 50 kg category for the first time. Earlier she used to play in 53 kg.
Media reports say that after being dropped from the Olympics, Vinesh’ health has deteriorated and she has been admitted to the hospital. Here the news agency has informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha to find ways to help the wrestler. The PM has also asked Usha to lodge a protest in this matter.
Vinesh kept exercising all night to lose weight
It has been told in many media reports that Vinesh and her coach came to know about her excess weight only on Tuesday night. After this, Vinesh did not sleep the whole night and kept doing exercises like jogging, skipping and cycling to bring her weight in the prescribed category.
Media reports also said that Vinesh had even cut her hair and nails. Despite this his weight did not decrease. The Indian team had demanded to give Vinesh some more time.
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said- It is extremely regrettable that Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified in the 50 kg category of women’s wrestling due to being overweight. Despite efforts throughout the night, her weight was found to be a few grams more than 50 kg in the morning. There will be no comment from the Indian team in this regard at present. Vinesh’s privacy is requested to be respected. We would like to focus on the upcoming competitions.
