Suryakumar Yadav has been made the captain of the Indian T20 team for the Sri Lanka tour. Although Hardik Pandya was considered the biggest contender for the captaincy of the T20 team after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, the selection committee gave preference to Surya. Now his captaincy of Mumbai Indians is also in doubt. According to a report, such feedback was also received from the board that the players trust Surya more than Pandya and are more comfortable working under his leadership.
According to PTI, now questions are being raised about Pandya’s future in the team. After being ignored in the captaincy of India, now it has to be seen whether IPL team Mumbai Indians will keep him as captain or not. Mumbai had made Hardik the captain before last season in place of IPL’s most successful captain Rohit Sharma. IPL is to have a mega auction this year and in such a situation it has to be seen whether Rohit, who made India the T20 World Champion, will remain with Mumbai or not.
Suryakumar Would Be the Next MI Captain
Apart from Hardik, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah also want to lead the team. The IPL Steering Committee has not yet announced how many players they will allow to be retained. There is a possibility that the franchise will be allowed to retain four players including one foreigner. In such a situation, the franchise will have to make some tough decisions to build a strong team for the next few years. There is no doubt that retaining Surya will be Mumbai’s priority.
Hardik’s time is over in Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians did not perform well under the captaincy of Hardik, who did wonders for Gujarat Titans. Gautam Gambhir becoming the head coach of Team India has affected Hardik’s chances of becoming the captain. However, the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar also contributed significantly to this, who believed that Hardik Pandya has not been good strategically as a captain. Young players will also be more comfortable with Suryakumar Yadav than him.
