On Monday, Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud reprimanded a lawyer. Besides, he also taught a person who was arguing in the court a lesson about court room decorum. Actually, the petitioners were demanding an investigation against former CJI Ranjan Gogoi. In response to a question by the CJI, he said ‘yeah, yeah’.
This angered CJI Chandrachud and he said that the court is not a ‘coffee shop’.
‘I am allergic to Yeah’- CJI Chandrachud
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed in 2018 seeking an in-house inquiry against former CJI Ranjan Gogoi. During the hearing, CJI Chandrachud asked, ‘But is this a petition under Article 32? How can you file a PIL by calling a judge a respondent?’
On this the petitioner told the CJI, ‘Yeah-yeah…the then CJI Ranjan Gogoi…I have been asked to file a curative petition…’
On this, CJI Chandrachud interrupted the petitioner and said that he should not say ‘Yeah’ in the court. He said, ‘This is not a coffee shop! What is this Yeah, Yeah? I’m allergic to this Yeah, Yeah. This cannot be allowed.’
