Hours after announcing his retirement from professional cricket on Friday, September 27, 2024, West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders as the team mentor for the IPL 2025 season. A statement issued by KKR, co-owned by Shahrukh Khan, said, ‘During his illustrious career, he (Dwayne Bravo) has played 582 T20 matches, taken 631 wickets and scored almost 7,000 runs. Has won more championships than any other cricketer. Bravo’s experience is unmatched.‘
Dwayne Bravo-CSK’s 13 year old relationship broken
With this, Dwayne Bravo’s 13-year-old relationship with IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings ended. Dwayne Bravo was a part of Chennai Super Kings since IPL 2018. Earlier, he was also a part of Chennai Super Kings from 2011 to 2015. He performed well while playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL in 2015, taking 26 wickets and winning the Purple Cap for the second time.
Dwayne Bravo will replace Gautam Gambhir
Dwayne Bravo will replace Gautam Gambhir. Earlier this year, Gautam Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders to their first IPL title since 2014. Gambhir later stepped down to take up the role of head coach with the India senior men’s team.
Bravo will mentor in KKR global franchise
KKR also confirmed that Dwayne Bravo will be seen in the same role across the Knight Riders’ global franchises including the Caribbean Premier League, Major League Cricket and ILT20. Venky Mysore, CEO, Knight Riders Group, said, “DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development. His tireless efforts to win, coupled with his vast experience and deep knowledge, will greatly benefit our franchise and players. We are also delighted that Bravo will join our other franchises globally including CPL, MLC and ILT20.”
