A fatal accident occurred near Gulpura village on the Uttar Kannada district. The incident took place around 4:00 AM on Wednesday. A police officer stated that the vegetable truck, in which the victims were traveling, fell into a 50-meter deep gorge. All the victims were fruit vendors traveling from Savanur to Yellapura fair to sell fruits. North Kannada’s Superintendent of Police, M. Narayan, informed that they were traveling on the Savanur-Hubli road when the accident occurred in a forested area.
Narayan told the media, “Around 4:00 AM, the truck driver swerved to the left to give way to another vehicle and fell into a 50-meter deep gorge.” He also mentioned that there was no safety barrier on the road in the gorge. The officer reported, “10 people died on the spot, and 20 others were severely injured. The injured were admitted to KIMS hospital in Hubli.”
Meanwhile, in another road accident in Raichur, Karnataka, four people were killed and 10 others injured when a vehicle overturned. This incident took place in Sindhanur. After the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the families. A case has been registered at the Sindhanur Traffic Police Station.
