Power Cut and Salary Delays: What’s Going Wrong at Mumbai Congress Office?

In a surprising turn of events, the Mumbai Congress office was left in the dark as the electricity was cut off due to a pending bill of over 4 lakh rupees. The power cut, which happened last week, raised a lot of eyebrows and sparked a wave of criticism from both within the party and outside. Although the issue was later sorted out with the payment of a major chunk of the arrears, it raises serious questions about how things are being managed at the Mumbai Congress office.

Billed for Neglect: 4 Lakh Overdue!

Reports indicate that the electricity bill for the Mumbai Congress office had been unpaid for quite some time, leading to an overdue amount of over 4 lakh rupees. This eventually resulted in the power being cut off. After discussions between senior Congress leaders and BEST (Mumbai’s electricity provider), the payment was partly made, and the electricity was restored.

Salaries on Hold: Staff Left Waiting

But that’s not the only issue. Workers at the Congress office have reportedly been waiting for their salaries, which have been delayed by up to two months! This delay in payments has added to the growing frustrations within the party. On top of that, it’s been revealed that the office rent, which falls under the Public Works Department (PWD), hasn’t been paid for months, accumulating several lakhs in unpaid dues.

Varsha Gaikwad Under Fire

The heat isn’t just on the unpaid bills. Internal factions within Mumbai Congress have started blaming President Varsha Gaikwad for the mess. They claim that 18 months ago, when she took charge, she promised to run the Mumbai unit smoothly, but under her leadership, things have been falling apart. Leaders are leaving, and the organization is reportedly struggling.

Sanjay Nirupam’s Twitter Attack

This issue caught the attention of Sanjay Nirupam, a former Congress leader, who took to Twitter to express his concerns. He said that the Mumbai Congress office is practically on the verge of shutting down. He slammed the leadership for years of unpaid rent, rising electricity bills, and delayed salaries. Nirupam reminisced about his time as Mumbai Congress president, claiming that even during tough times, such a disgraceful situation never occurred under his watch.

Mumbai Congress Responds: ‘It’s Routine’

In response to the accusations, Mumbai Congress denied all the allegations. The party’s treasurer, Sandeep Shukla, dismissed the claims as “exaggerated” and said that delays in salaries and rent payments were part of routine operations. He even accused the opposition of spreading misinformation.

Support for Varsha Gaikwad

On the flip side, Congress MLA Amin Patel jumped to defend Varsha Gaikwad, calling the allegations false and insisting that the Mumbai Congress is functioning smoothly under her leadership. According to him, the party knows how to handle its affairs and there’s no reason to worry.

An Empty Office: The Real Story?

When reporters from India TV visited the Mumbai Congress office, they found it eerily quiet, with only a few employees inside. Staff members refused to comment on the issue, but they did mention that the electricity cut was just a technical glitch. They assured that everything was under control and that the matter would be resolved internally.

While the power may have been restored, the real question remains: is Mumbai Congress truly running smoothly, or is it struggling behind closed doors? Only time will tell, but it’s clear that things are far from ideal at the moment.
