Paoli Dam’s Journey from Tollywood to Bollywood and Women Empowerment

Paoli Dam is often admired as a conventional portrayal of femininity. When it comes to portrayals of strong, independent women on screen, actress Paoli Dam has set a new benchmark. From her early days in Bengali cinema to her foray into Bollywood, Paoli Dam’s choice of empowering roles made her very different from others.

A strong beginning.

Paili started her career with the Bengali television serial “Jibon Niye Khela” in 2003. Paoli gained recognition for her performances in Bengali films such as “Kaali”, “I Love You“, and “Boxer”.  Kaali was a great work on women’s empowerment.

In 2011, she received international recognition for her role in the Bengali film “Chatrak”. This film triggered many controversies in India when an unstimulated no-body-double sex scene of Paoli Dam and Anubrata Basu was leaked on the Internet.

From strong and determined characters like Kavya Krishna in “Hate Story” to thoughtful and powerful roles like Anu in “Ankur Arora Murder Case,” she has shown her versatility.

Paoli has proven her versatility in representing the different shades of female strength.

In Anvita Dutt’s horror film, Bulbul Paoli acted as a negative but a victim of the marvelous situation character.

In the Hindi thriller movie “Raat Baki Hai”, Paoli represents another powerful mysterious women character.
