Maratha Reservation Movement Escalating Out of Control in Maharashtra

Some protesters of the Maratha reservation movement have alleged that Prakash Solanke is demanding to clarify his stand on the Maratha reservation, and pelted stones and set fire to the MLA’s house! The demand for the Maratha reservation continued to gain momentum across the state, with Manoj Jarange Patil leading the movement. Citizens from various villages also have been joining this cause, and they’ve received support from Mathadi workers belonging to the Maharashtra State Mathadi Transport and General Workers Union.

The Supreme Court has struck down the Maratha reservation legislation of Maharashtra, but Jarange Patil has been demanding that Marathas should be given Kunbi caste certificates to get the benefits of reservation in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. the OBCs are up in arms against any such possible move.

The office of the Majalgaon municipality too was targeted and fired!

Now this peaceful Maratha reservation agitation has turned violent on Monday with Beed in Marathwada region, where the houses and offices of people’s representatives were targeted and torched. Even as protestors targeted state transport buses, burnt tires on roads blocking the traffic, and pelted stones at offices of political parties. the situation seemed to go out of control in Beed and neighboring areas. “Don’t engage in violence, arson, or take extreme steps,” Jalna-based activist Manoj Jarange Patil said.

The office of the Majalgaon municipality was targeted and fired. The office of NCP MLA Sandeep Kshirsagar and the house of his uncle and former minister Jaydutt Kshirsagar, a Shiv Sena leader, were set afire also. “Jarange-Patil, his team, and the Sakal Maratha Samaj would be to ensure that the protest does not go violent,” said CM Shinde. Solanke, who is from the Ajit Pawarled NCP faction, has said “I was inside my home when it was attacked. Fortunately, none of my family members or staff were injured. We are all safe but there is a huge loss of property due to fire.”
