Who is Atishi, the next CM of Delhi?

 

Atishi will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi. She will take charge of Delhi government in place of Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal himself had proposed Atishi’s name for the post of Chief Minister.Atishi has been elected the leader of the legislative party. All the MLAs stood up and accepted this proposal. Personal information

Atishi Marlena was born on June 8, 1981 in a Punjabi Rajput family in Delhi. Both her parents, Vijay and Tripta Singh, are esteemed professors at Delhi University. Her father has been given the name ‘Marlena’ as a combination of two of his idols Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin. However, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Atishi dropped ‘Marlena’ and is now widely recognized by her first name.

Educational background

Atishi has a very impressive academic journey. She was a student of Springdales School in New and then did her graduation from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, where she graduated in 2001. Furthermore, she completed her post graduation from University of Oxford. After returning to India, she contributed her expertise to Rishi Valley School in Andhra Pradesh and later worked with the Sambhavana Institute of Public Policy, cementing her credentials as a leader with a robust academic foundation.

Political journey

Atishi’s journey in politics began as an activist within the AAP. She has been associated with this political group since its early days. She was appointed as an advisor to Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in 2015, specifically aiding in the education sector. She has contributed a huge deal in shaping Delhi’s education reforms and gained widespread recognition. After Sisodia’s arrest in connection with the liquor scam, Atishi took charge of key portfolios, including education, continuing to build upon the foundation of reforms initiated under Sisodia.
