Gautam Gambhir’s name is in the forefront for the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The tenure of the current coach of the team, Rahul Dravid, is ending after the T20 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had invited online applications for this post in May. After this more than 3000 applicants had applied. Initially the names of Virender Sehwag, Laxman and many former foreign cricketers were also in discussion for the coach, but now Gautam Gambhir is the strongest contender.
Gambhir put forward 5 conditions!
Gambhir’s first condition
According to the report of Cricbuzz, Gautam Gambhir has proposed the name of former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes to BCCI to become the fielding coach of Team India. The first initiative regarding Jonty Rhodes was not taken by BCCI but by Gautam Gambhir. If Gautam Gambhir becomes the head coach of Team India, he will have full rights to choose the fielding, batting and bowling coach. Jonty Rhodes was the best fielder in the world of his time. Jonty is also the fielding coach of Lucknow Super Giants team in IPL. Apart from this, Gambhir has also been the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants in IPL, hence the coordination between the two is also considered very good.
Condition No. 2 – Freedom to choose support coaching staff – Gambhir’s second condition is that he wants freedom to choose support coaching staff. This means that apart from coaching, other staff members, gym trainers and other support people associated with Team India will also be there according to Gautam.
Condition No. 3 – According to reports, Champions Trophy 2025 could be the last year of senior players which also includes senior names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja.
Condition number 4 – Even though India has to play the next ODI World Cup in 2027, let us tell you that in the meantime, India also has to play 1 Champions Trophy, 2026 T20 World Cup, and 2 ICC World Test Championships. In such a situation, all the arrows in Gambhir’s quiver are now going to be used to win this ICC trophy. For which Guru Gambhir will now prepare the road map of Team India. According to reports, a veteran bowler like Mohammed Shami may now be retired from T20 cricket and he will now be seen playing only in Tests and ODIs.
Condition number 5 – Whatever happens, India’s ultimate mission is to win the World Cup 2027 trophy. The coach who is leaving also knows where the mistakes happened and the coach who is coming also knows very well what are the expectations from him. In such a situation, no matter how many twists and turns you want, India’s only target is to win the Mission World Cup 2027, for which the Indian team can make big changes.
Initially, names of many former legends had come forward to become the head of Team India. In which the names of most of the Australian cricketers were included but later BCCI had clearly denied that no Australian would become the head coach of Team India. Gautam Gambhir has remained the first choice of BCCI after the victory of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL.
