Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell joked that he hopes India do not select RCB teammate Virat Kohli in the Indian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Maxwell has called Kohli ‘the most clutch player ever’ ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and USA.
Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the ongoing IPL 2024, having scored 316 runs in five matches at an average of 105.33 and an average of 146.29. The RCB opening batsman has scored two half-centuries and one century this season. Speaking to ESPN, Maxwell called Kohli one of the most clutch players he has seen, while joking that he hopes India do not take him to the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The 35 year old Australian batsman said, “Virat Kohli is the most clutch player I have ever played against. The innings he played against us in Mohali during the 2016 T20 World Cup is still the best innings I have ever seen been played against me. His awareness of what he needs to do to win the game is just phenomenal. I hope India don’t pick him because it will be great to not come up against him”.
Rohit has demanded Kohli
Recently, there were doubts over Kohli’s place in India’s T20 World Cup due to lack of playing time in the shortest format of cricket, but the star batsman has once again proved his worth by making a strong start to IPL 2024. At the same time, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has demanded Virat Kohli. In a statement, Rohit had said that the Indian team needs Kohli.
