The 67th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 was played between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants on Friday (17 May 2024) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya played the leadership responsibility on behalf of Mumbai Indians. Whereas for Lucknow Super Giants, the burden of captaincy remained on the shoulders of wicketkeeper batsman KL Rahul. The coin toss fell in the camp of Mumbai Indians. However, LSG team won the match by 18 runs.
Was it Rohit’s last match in the IPL as Mumbai’s clan?
Rohit Sharma is counted among the most successful captains of IPL. Under his captaincy, Mumbai Indians have won the IPL title five times. But this time Mumbai made a change in the captaincy and made Hardik Pandya the captain in place of Rohit. But as soon as this matter came to light, the matter of Mumbai team being divided into two parts also came to light and due to this, questions started being raised whether Rohit Sharma played his last match in Mumbai Indians jersey at Wankhede Stadium on 17th May.
Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy of the team in 2013 and made the team champion in the very first season. After this, Mumbai was successful in winning the title in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 under his captaincy. But this time Rohit was not the captain and the result was that Mumbai was out of the playoff race long ago in IPL-2024.
