The biggest challenge for Kolkata next season is going to be which player is going to be captaining them. KKR had made the team champion under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer last season before the IPL 2025 mega auction.

However, the franchise had released him and hence Punjab Kings made him a part of their team in the auction for Rs 26.75 crore. Now he is going to be seen playing for Punjab in IPL 2025. Ajinkya Rahane might lead team KKR

Kolkata has not bought any player in the mega auction of IPL who has captaincy experience in IPL. They have included Venkatesh Iyer in the team in this auction for Rs 23.75 crore. Iyer is also being considered as an option for captaincy but he has no captaincy experience at all. So Rinku Singh’s name is also included as the second contender and he has captaincy experience in domestic cricket also.

However, now if reports are to be believed, the name of veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane has become the frontrunner in this race. Rahane has also captained Rajasthan Royals before and he also has captaincy experience in this league. In such a situation, now if sources are to be believed, Rahane can captain Kolkata and he is going to be seen once again in IPL as captain.
