Former captain and veteran batsman Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach with Team Indian is about to end after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In such a situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in search of a new head coach and has issued applications for its appointment. The board has received about 3 thousand applications for this post.
Speculation about Gautam Gambhir becoming the next Coach
For the next coach to mentor team India the name of Gautam Gambhir is in the air. The speculation started after Gautam Gambhir was congratulated by BCCI Secretary Jai Shah and both were seen smiling and shaking hands with each other. Then another news of confirmation came from another BCCI member to the media. Amid this Sourav Ganguly has tweeted on the matter.
Ganguly’s cryptic tweet is creating a stir in social media
Former BCCI president and veteran player Sourav Ganguly dropped a tweet today, 30th May, where he directly advised BCCI to inquisite as much as possible and then consider the next face who will mentor team India in the future. His exact words were,
“The coach’s significance in one’s life, their guidance, and relentless training shape the future of any person, both on and off the field. So choose the coach and institution wisely…”
Is Ganguly hinting at himself as a stronger candidate for the post?
It is clear in his post that Ganguly is hinting at his disapproval of appointing Gambhir as the next Coach of Team India. In his tweet, he stressed about a coach’s significance in one’s life. He was captain of the Indian national cricket team and is regarded as one of India’s most successful cricket captains. As captain, he led the Indian national team to win the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy and reach the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy, and the 2004 Asia Cup. There is no need to mention his potential and ability as a cricketer. Ganguly has also performed the role of the president of BCCI from 2019 to 2022. During this time he has shown his decision-making ability as well as the potential to take huge risks. How,ever he has not yet taken the responsibility to mentor the team. If the variables are measured, Ganguly is a good choice as the coach of Team India.
