Abhijit Ganguly

Abhijit Ganguly, former Calcutta High Court judge, is now a BJP leader and Tamluk MP after winning the Lok Sabha 2024 elections. He gained prominence for exposing corruption cases, especially in the teacher recruitment scam, which brought controversies and political attention.

In March 2024, he resigned from his judicial position and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), making a bold transition into politics. His criticisms of Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) made headlines, and some of his remarks led to action by the Election Commission, which barred him from campaigning for 24 hours for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Despite challenges, Ganguly secured victory from Tamluk, strengthening BJP’s position in West Bengal politics. His journey from the judiciary to politics has sparked debates, with supporters hailing him as a crusader against TMC corruption and critics questioning his shift.

Now, as an elected MP, his role in legal reforms and governance will be crucial. His strong stance against corruption and administrative mismanagement is expected to shape the political discourse in Bengal in the coming years.
