bridge collapsed in Baltimore Harbor early on Tuesday when a massive cargo ship crippled by a power loss rammed into the structure! This incident forced the closure of one of the busiest ports on the U.S. Eastern Seaboard. The 22-member crew of the cargo ship were all Indians and they were accounted for and are safe, informed by Grace Ocean Ptd Ltd’s operators of the ship. Many other vehicles were crossing the bridge also. The bridge was more than 2.6km (1.6 miles) long, when it collapsed after the vessel hit a support.

The US Coast Guard has sayd that they have suspended the search and rescue efforts for the six individuals who are still missing after the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. They workers are assumed to be dead by now. “I’d like to announce tonight that based on the length of time that we’ve gone in this search, the extensive search efforts we’ve put into it, the water temperature, that at this point we do not believe that we’re going to find any of these individuals still alive,” Rear Adm. Shannon Gilreath has told reporters this , at a Tuesday evening news conference.
The collapse happened after a massive container ship lost it’s power on early Tuesday and then crashed straight into the bridge. Because of this people and vehicles fell into the frigid Patapsco River. The six missing people, who are assumed to be dead are believed to have been part of the construction crew that were repairing potholes on the bridge. Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld said at a news conference earlier Tuesday, “We are going to suspend the active search and rescue efforts. Coast Guard’s not going away, none of our partners are going away, but we’re just going to transition to a different phase.”
