Dabur Pharmaceutical LTD is a Non-govt company, incorporated on 25 Jun 1985. It’s a public unlisted company and is classified as a company limited by shares. The company’s authorized capital stands at Rs 200.0 lakhs and has 92.9295% paid-up capital which is Rs 185.86 lakhs. Consumers sued Dabur subsidiaries in the US and Canada, allegations are that Dabur’s products are cancer-causing. Multiple cases were filed against Dabur subsidiaries for hair products causing cancer.
The consumers alleged that the company’s hair products caused ovarian cancer and uterine cancer. Dabur operates across three categories: home and personal care, healthcare, and food and beverages. According to a filing with the exchange, the cases are in the pleadings and early discovery phases of litigation. Currently, there are approximately 5,400 cases in the MDL with the names Namaste, Dermoviva, and DINTL as defendants along with some other industry players. These cases have been filed in both federal and state courts in the US and Canada. In the US, federal cases have been converted into a Multi-District Litigation.
However, the Dabur company has completely denied the allegations, which it says are based on an ‘unsubstantiated and incomplete study’. They said that it is exchanging requests for information and documents in some cases. This comes days after, on Tuesday, the company also said that it had received a Goods and Service Tax demand notice of Rs 320.6 crore.
“Namaste, Dermoviva and DINTL [Dabur International] deny liability and have retained counsel to defend them in these lawsuits as these allegations are based on unsubstantiated and incomplete study, Currently, the cases are in the pleadings and early discovery phases of litigation,” the exchange filing said. “Various motions are pending as well. Since we are in the initial stage of litigation, any final quantum of the claim amount is neither probable nor estimable,” stated the company.
