Punjabi singer and rapper Shubhneet Singh, popularly known by his stage name ‘Shubh’, is accused of sharing a distorted map of India on social media and this controversy has blown the internet.
Shubh started in 2021 with the single ‘Don’t Look’ with Irman Thiara. Then he came out with his debut song “We Rollin”, which has more than 125 million views on YouTube. Then, he dropped two more songs ‘Elevated’ and ‘Offshore’ which were again hits. His latest released song “Baller” has also crossed 10 million views on YouTube. This Canada-based singer is scheduled to perform in several cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, and many more, over the next two months. He is also listed as a special guest of a cruise festival scheduled later this week in Mumbai.
WHAT IS THE CONTROVERSY?
The 26-year-old singer posted India’s distorted map in his Instagram story that did not show Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and north-east as part of India on March 23, 2023. Punjab Police launched a pursuit to apprehend the self-proclaimed Sikh preacher and ‘Waris Punjab De’. Shubh shared a distorted map with the caption “Pray for Punjab”. in which several North Indian states including Punjab and J&K were not included, which indicates supporting them.
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has written to the Mumbai police to register an FIR against Shubh and has written to the organizers to cancel the singer’s tour and shows.
“Shubh is openly a Khalistani supporter and if he is allowed to hold a concert here, he will be influencing a lot of youth in Mumbai and our country to support his agenda…He has proven that he is a pro-Khalistanist and openly supports their agenda and [he] is also influencing the youth of the country to do the same and wage a war against the Government of India by posting such absurd and derogatory posts about the Government of India,” the complaint read.
But on Tuesday, the creator of the alleged ‘distorted map’, Amandeep Singh, tweeted that Shubh had shared his artwork and “It was a visual expression on a policeman taking the plug out of Panjab due to the ‘blackout in Panjab’, “.
