On Thursday night a major accident took place in Lucknow, Sector-12 area of PGI. an apartment, which is named “Space Abril Green”, being constructed near Kalindi Park located in PGI Sector-12. Many laborers have built five separate huts and they are living with their families on the side of the road near this under-construction building. On Thursday night, around 11:30 pm, a roadside part of this apartment suddenly collapsed and all five huts were razed. The slum of laborers was destroyed to the ground and 12 people were buried under the pile of destruction and two died (Mukadam (35) and two-month-old Ayesha).
After getting informed, the police fire brigade personnel and SDRF team somehow rescued everyone from the debris late in the night and admitted the injured to Trauma-2 for treatment. Relief and rescue work continued till late night. Locals of the area also helped the police in the search and rescue operations. Reports say that during the day, the basement of the under-construction apartment was excavated with a JCB. However, this loss cannot be compensated, but still compensation arrangements have been made by the government for the families of the injured and deceased.
Building collapse refers to the failure of the structure or the component. The failure of a building depends on the materials, designs, methods of construction, and environmental conditions. The reasons a building collapses can be poor structural design, poor compliance with specifications, poor quality control, faulty construction methodology, foundation failure, and corruption. Investigation is still going on, on this matter. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Sayed Ali Abbas said, “Some laborers who worked at the site used to live in shanties in the basement. As the floor collapsed, the laborers were buried under the rubble in their sleep.”
