Alcohol intoxication is a temporary condition that happens when a person drinks an excess of alcohol at one time. When a person drinks alcohol, the ethanol in the alcohol passes through the digestive system and enters straight into the person’s bloodstream through the linings of the stomach and intestines. If a person drinks alcohol on an empty stomach, their BAC usually peaks within 30–90 minutes. Although our liver removes alcohol from the bloodstream, it can only filter out a small amount at once. When a person drinks more alcohol than their liver can process, those ethanol molecules start processing in the body. And this eventually damages tissue cells and organs.
