Modi govt’s new move : notifying CAA rules! Will this politically impact West Bengal just month before Lok Sabha polls?

The central government has notified that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules from now on, and this happened just ahead of Lok Sabha elections. The implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 will grant citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014. But West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made it clear that she will closely read the rules before commenting, she also called it as a “lollipop” before the election polls.

Narendra Modi and BJP govt took 1,521 days to frame rules for CAA!

This was our long-standing demand and Modi ji’s guarantee was fulfilled. In the coming days, this will have an impact on the elections and the results will speak. This law is not just for Bengal but for our country,” said Union Minister of State Shantanu Thakur. Shantanu Thakur is a part of Matua community, they have been demanding implementation of CAA, for a long time.

Hence the CAA rules are issued, the Narendra Modi government will now start granting Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan and Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians who had come to India till December 31, 2014. It is notable that CAA was passed in December 2019 but there were protests in several parts of India against it. It is shocking that over a hundred people lost their lives during the anti-CAA protests or police action! “These rules, called the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 will enable the persons eligible under CAA-2019 to apply for the grant of Indian citizenship. The applications will be submitted in a completely online mode for which a web portal has been provided, “ said the home minister Amit Shah.

But what will happen to the Indian Muslims? “Crores of Indian Muslims will not be affected by this law at all… This law is not going to take away the citizenship of any Muslim… In the past years, it has been seen that there were protests, it was because of misunderstandings,” said all India Muslim Jamaat President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi . He also said, “The Govt of India has implemented the CAA law. I welcome this law. This should have been done much earlier but better late than never… There are a lot of misunderstandings among the Muslims regarding this law. This law has nothing to do with Muslims. Earlier there was no law to provide citizenship to the non-Muslims coming from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who faced atrocities based on religion…”
